The first annual Oceanic Global Short Film Festival launched in Summer 2020, aiming to address issues that came to light during the pandemic ranging from financial uncertainty for freelancers in the creative industries, the demand for educational & environmental online content, as well as the dangerous increase in plastic driven by COVID-19. Inspiring positive behavioral change at all levels is required for us to live in balance with nature. In this digital age, film making is a universal language that can create this bridge.
Following an open call for entries, films were scored by a panel of expert judges to determine the festival’s Top 10 Finalists. A period of artist spotlights and social media voting secured the Final Four Films, with winning filmmakers going on to discuss the power of art in igniting change during a virtual screening with EarthxTV and winning a one-on-one mentorship session with an acclaimed producer, director, or filmmaker.
