Sita Mohabir is a Dutch-Surinamese researcher and organisational inclusion specialist whose work connects organisational studies with disability studies, intersectional feminism and the Blue Humanities. She holds an MSc in Culture, Organization and Management from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Her ethnographic research at the University of the Western Cape examined how disability, race and gender shape everyday experiences of institutional inclusion. As founder of Equitable Inclusion and an appointed member and co-author of the Dutch OCTAS commission report on disability-benefit reform, she brings experience analysing how systems shape access, work and belonging.
She is developing a joint doctoral project between VU Amsterdam and UWC on Indian indenture, women’s labour and the meanings of ocean crossings in descendants’ lives in South Africa and the Netherlands, within a history connecting India, Natal and Suriname. As a Disabled woman of colour with Hindostani-Surinamese family roots, she approaches the ocean as a site of colonial power, movement, relation and memory.
