Women’s contributions to small-scale fisheries should be recognised to improve fisheries management and achieve the SDGs.

Published on March 5 2021, this video shows new study that finds that women fishers’ contributions to small-scale fisheries in the ocean and within inland water habitats has been ignored leading to uninformed small-scale fisheries (SSF) policies and management. Therefore, reversing these shortcomings will be crucial to meeting the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goal 14 (conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas, and marine resources for sustainable development) and Goal 5 (achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls).
